Traditionally the father of the bride would cover the cost of the wedding but with the average wedding costing £20,500 now compared to £5,000 in 1990’s and £17,000 in 2000’s, should he really have to pay for everything? Well recent statistics are saying no he doesn’t have to pay for everything alone. Only 11% of fathers are paying for their daughter’s entire wedding. It seems now that brides and grooms are more inclined to pay for the wedding together in order to achieve their perfect day. Although according to the statistics parents do still help, with only 35% of couples paying for the entire wedding alone and 50% of couples paying with a little help from their mum and dad. The thing is a lot of brides to be are just regular women with a regular family. They don’t have a millionaire dad to pay for every aspect of their wedding. Most brides have an ordinary dad with a reasonably good job that pays the bills with a little extra to spend or save. But with the average price of weddings increasing so much it’s no wonder dad can’t pay all on his own, I mean who has £20,000 lying around, not me that’s for sure! I do think it is nice that everyone is pitching in to pay for the wedding nowadays though and there are a lot more DIY wedding accessories and decorations (but that is a subject for another blog post). Family members seem to be doing it all for free though, you have Nanny Doreen making the cake, Aunt Sally doing the bouquets, Uncle Bob taking photos and so on but it is really heart warming that everyone does their bit so the bride and groom who they all love dearly can have the day they always dreamed of. Personally I think everybody coming together, doing things for free or helping pay for certain aspects of the wedding is definitely the way to do it so for me this tradition is a thing of the past! What do you think?
